HRNY Asks Retensa to Present on the Cost of an Unhealthy Workforce

Conference Will Address the Importance of a Healthy Workforce on Employee Retention

New York, NY, January, 2006 – Over the last two years, healthcare has become one of the fastest growing expenses for companies.  As a result, this program will provide companies with a greater understanding of how a healthy workforce influences retention and what strategies successfully create such a workforce.  Chason Hecht, Retensa’s President and employee retention expert, will address these issues during a presentation at an HRNY event on January 5th.  The presentation is directed towards Human Resources Directors of non-profit companies.

A company’s ability to take a stance on employee health and wellness plays a critical role in decreasing health costs and retaining employees.  According to the American Journal of Health Promotion, an individual who participates in a corporate wellness program and joins at least one activity will reduce their annual personal claims cost by 26.1 percent and absenteeism by 28.3 percent.  Furthermore, it will result in a 12.5 percent increase in attendance by employees and a 20 percent lower chance of leaving the company.

Several new studies have revealed a direct connection between a healthy workforce and reducing employee turnover.  If companies do not address the increasing cost of an unhealthy workforce, these costs will overtake profits within five years.  Mr. Hecht will address a number of the issues that companies face in light of increasing health costs and a limited budget.  He will discuss the impact of an unhealthy workforce and what initiatives can improve employee retention and productivity.  He will also focus on why some benefits should not be offered and the types of health programs that are most likely to save companies money.
